My joy - I’ve been posting them for years on my Twitter (x) account and thought I’d put some of them in one place. So fun to see!!

At least he was excellent as a Landscape artist...also his Bilbo is charming and the great eagle and Smaug are compelling, even if his Beleg is kinda silly with the big pointy shoes.

Thank you so much! I wish I could draw as well as write; what a thorough way to tell a story!

i have the books u mentioned and every now and then I drool on the pages.

also I used his illustrations when teaching Design at SUNY. Students were amazed-as we all are. And he felt he was not such a great artist-am I right??

These images were so lovely and reminded me that Tolkien wasn’t just a writer but also a visual artist. (Which, I admit, makes me feel slight envy). Wanted to restrack this with a comment, ended up hitting the button too soon. Still, thank you! <3

These were so cool to look through! I think the Smaug and Rivendell ones were my favorite.

…”little to know awareness…” rather, I think you mean “little to NO awareness” instead. Are you letting AI write your articles?

These are INCREDIBLE. Do you know more about the shining city with the day and night surrounding it? I’m guessing it’s Minas Tirith?

This is called “The Shores of Faery” and was painted in 1915 - well before The Hobbit was written.
