The older I get, the more I have a distaste for hype… The loud, bright, flashy, fancy, over-the-top. The “we need it bigger to make it better” thinking. The land of neon signs and fog machines. Hype sells itself as better because it says it is extravagant. But this is an offense to this God-soaked world. True glory doesn't need hype. True beauty promotes itself just fine. True goodness doesn't need an agent. I find myself longing more for the mundane moments. The moments filled with hidden enchantment. The moments that don't need to be manipulated or enhanced. These moments have an inherent value that radiates out. Moments like... Sitting in the backyard and staring at the hummingbirds. Drinking good coffee in the morning while the fog slowly lifts. Watching the wild colors of the sunset with childlike wonder. Walking in your neighborhood and noticing the uniqueness of people. Laughing with friends around the table while sharing a good meal. This is the stuff of life, in my opinion. I can see right through the gimmicks. And so can you. You want something real. You want something of substance. We all long for something more simple. It's why so many people are going back to analog. It's why film photography has become popular again. It's why people are buying "dumb phones" like crazy. It's why we feel so empty inside after scrolling and binging. We were made for more. We were made for less. To hell with hype. Give us the real stuff.
