I’ve recently started reading fiction again. Something I haven’t done since I was a child. It has opened me up to new perspectives and the creative ideas are pouring in. I avoided it for so long claiming to only love non-fiction (and I write memoir) but there was a constant whispering to return to what I loved as a child. It became impossible to ignore. Your piece came at the right time, explaining my experience right now. I walked the Tolkien trail a few weeks ago which inspired me to watch all six films again. It was such a lovely experience to revisit the magical world through new eyes.
Ultimately, this is why Rings of Power succeeds so well; from the moment we first see the bliss of Valinor in the prologue, we are plunged into a world and a story where what C.S. Lewis once wrote of Fellowship is vividly true. "To say that in it heroic romance, gorgeous, eloquent, and unashamed, has suddenly returned at a period almost pathological in its anti-romanticism, is inadequate." The Sun Yet Shines!
